Watering Systems For Your Northern Virginia Home And Garden
Choosing the right type of watering system for your Northern Virginia lawn and garden can make all the difference in the appearance and growth of your vegetation. Although natural rainwater is one of the best watering systems, unfortunately homeowners cannot rely on it making other watering systems necessary. Sprinklers are the next best choice in watering systems and can be very effective watering tools.
Choosing the best type of watering tools, or sprinklers in this case, depends on the size of the area that must be covered by the watering system. A hand-held nozzle sprayer is perhaps the easiest watering system to operate, but does require the personal attention of holding it that may not be ideal for all homeowners. The hand-held sprinkler simply attaches to the end of the hose and allows the user to control the flow and direction of water. Aside from the time that must be dedicated to this type of watering system, the other drawback is the difficulty of controlling the water flow to ensure even coverage. Uncontrolled flow and uneven coverage of water can eventually lead to an uneven lawn.
A soaker hose is another option of watering system, which is basically a water hose with punctures throughout its length. While this type of watering tool provides for even distribution of water for soaking the ground beneath the plants, the irrigation pattern may not always be even. Again, this type of soaker hose watering system can lead to uneven lawn growth, which makes it better suited for watering flowerbeds or flower gardens rather than lawns.
A fountain sprinkler allows for a very simple watering system. The sprinkler is attached to the end of a water hose and the sprinkler head sprays water upward, allowing the water pressure to drive the water and allows wind to further distribute the water. This is a very effective watering system method, especially on small areas. The added bonus is it is inexpensive to purchase and easy to install.
An oscillating sprinkler also hooks to the end of a water hose and distributes water across the area as the sprinkler moves. This type of watering system is a great choice for square lawns given its range of coverage, but it must be moved often to provide total coverage – especially on large or irregular shaped lawns.
